Our Story

Edge by the Sea is an independent coffee shop and takeaway on Littlehampton seafront.


Our mission is simple; to provide the highest quality coffee using the finest, ethically sourced coffee beans available. With nearly 40 years in the trade, we have a strong network of respected coffee growers from all over the world and work closely with our farmers to ensure maximum freshness and quality in every cup of Edgcumbes coffee and tea.

Edge by the Sea is the brainchild of Charlie Edgcumbe-Rendle who comes from a family steeped in coffee and tea expertise.

The Roastery is located a few miles up the road where we carefully hand roast our speciality coffee beans from estates and farms that have been, in most cases, visited personally by the Directors.

Tea is also a passion, as the business was started over 40 years’ ago by Frank Rendle, Charlie’s grandfather when he returned from Calcutta, now Kolkata, after years in the tea trade.
